Do any Brits get irritated when Americans call football “soccer”?

I am guessing this is why americans call football soccer, but no most British people call football football or footy. Americans of course called football football originally but struggled with the technicalities and so invented gridiron and hating football as their national pastimes. Football is the official name and always will be. Few people take gridiron seriously outside of north america, it is not demanding enough to be seen as real sport.

Why would they get irritated? In America it IS called soccer. Football is an entirely different sport. We don’t get irritated when Brits call cigarettes “fags”. We just laugh. It’s the same when they give us the 2 fingered salute and we have to give the one fingered one back. Hee hee.
