Actually, there is. If you know the basics of a language, then it won’t be hard for you to improve your vocabulary by watching TV shows on lingopie, for instance. It’s quite entertaining, and you don’t even notice that your language skills are improving. I managed to improve my Spanish that way, so I highly recommend you give it a shot.

For me, working with a tutor is too time-consuming, but I understand that there’s no other way to learn a language at a decent level.

For current students, the Department of Foreign Languages and Literatures offers free tutors in French, German and Spanish. For more information visit the web page of the Language Resource Center. You can find a link to the LRC on our main menu. If you are not currently a UMKC student, we can provide you with a list of tutors of various languages, from the community, who have provided us with their contact information. These tutors are not a service of the Department of Foreign Languages and Literatures and we cannot recommend them. We simply pass along their contact information. To request a list of tutors, email us at frn-lg@umkc.edu. The Department of Foreign Languages and Literatures does not offer translator services. We do, however, have a list of people in the community who would like to offer personal translating services. We can provide a list of these contacts upon request. You may also try the following website for a translator listing: www.ata-micata.org. For more informati
