Does walking a mile burn the same amount of calories as running one?
it is not whether you choose to run or walk that will determine how many calories you burned…it will depend on how far you go. If you choose to walk a mile or run a mile you are carrying the same load over the same distance. Work, in this case would remain constant, however if you run a mile you are generating more POWER. But since calories are measured by an equation similiar to work and not power. You will burn about the same number of calories whether you walk or run a mile. Unless you are sprinting at a speed that would generate more drag and wind resistance wich would require you to apply greater force over the same distance…they are pretty much equal. The difference is pretty hard to measure. Just remember work is force applied over distance. Power is work over time. If you take the time to understand those to equations you will be able to answer the question yourself.
