Since the pipe connections to the old (and new) faucets are hard to reach behind the sink, and since there is little room, what you need is a BASIN wrench, not “spanner” wrench. A basin wrench has spring loaded jaws that close when turning pressure is applied to the nut connecting the pipes (or holding the faucet) to the hard to reach underside of the faucet behind the sink. The jaws are located on the end of a long T-handle so it will reach into tight spaces and allow you to tighten, or loosen, the connection from below the sink. The jaws only work in one direction, but they flip from one side to the other, to loosen or tighten, depending on whichever you desire to do. The brand “Rigid” makes one with a telescopic handle to allow for adjustments, and it is of a very high quality. When buying tools, try to buy the best – it can make the job easier, and might work when others will not.
