Recessed (or “can”) lighting is a good choice for lighting in areas with a drop ceiling because it allows you to maintain maximum height below your ceiling because the entire recessed lighting fixture is located above the drop ceiling. Installing recessed lighting into a drop ceiling requires you to have some simple hand tools and “do-it-yourself” experience. The effort is definitely worth the reward, though, and you can experience that the first time you turn on your new recessed lights. Lay out where you want to install your recessed lights. Look above the drop ceiling to ensure there is enough room to install the fixtures. Remove the tiles where the recessed lighting will go. Measure the outside diameter of the recessed lighting fixture. Use a compass to draw a circle on the tile where you want your light fixture to be. Cut out the circle slowly with a drywall saw.
