I’ve tried everything and the only thing that stops my nails from breaking is professionally applied gel nails. I go every two weeks and get a pink and white gel fill. There are a few tips you can follow to keep your nails healthy and strong and to prevent breakage.

  • File your nails in one direction. Filing nails back and forth can weaken them.
  • Don’t pick at your nails or peel off nail polish. Use acetone-free nail polish remover.
  • Protect your hands by wearing gloves when it’s cold outside, and gloves when you’re washing dishes, gardening or cleaning.
  • Nails need moisture as much as your skin does. Use a hand moisturizer at least twice a day, being careful to rub the lotion into your fingernails.
  • Get plenty of protein, calcium, Vitamin E and other essential vitamins in your diet. This will help your hair and nails grow stronger and faster.
