What are the televisions like on long haul American Airlines flights?
American Airlines have in the main a very old fleet of aircraft and all models except the Boeing 777-200 have shared TV in economy. The 777 has personal, seat back TVs. You can see this for yourself at www.seatguru.com. Just select the a from the alphabetical list and click on American Airlines. You can not only see a synopsis of the seats in each class of every plane but by selecting the plane model look at details of each seat in any given aircraft. Frankly, American would not be my choice for any long haul flight. They are rated with three stars by Skytrax (www.airlinequality.com) from a possible five stars. There are a lot of options from Heathrow to New York and you should be able to get a much better deal in terms of flight comfort than with AA.
