What is the difference between a 3-year and 4-year Bachelor of Arts degree?
Simply put, the 4-year BA makes it easier to get into a Master’s level program. Most Universities only accept students with a 4-year or Honour’s level education. Without it, they will ask you to do a Pre-Master’s year, which is an extra year of undergraduate studies. Also, the 4-year major in IDS and CRS includes the Senior Seminar courses which students take in their last term at the University. In the Senior Seminar students integrate everything they have learned in classes and in the practicum. Students present a mini-thesis; this helps them focus what they have learned and what they intend to do with their degree. Another difference is the 3-year BA is a more general degree, whereas the 4-year degree is more focused and theoretical in the final year.
