What is the verizon hub

The Verizon Hub is a VOIP deskphone with integration with Verizon Wireless handsets and will have features such as scheduler, photo frame functionality, and digital corkboard.  Overall its like a cordless phone with web widget functions which let you get traffic, news, weather, and share photos. The Verizon Hub has a beautiful display as you can see in the picture.Verizon HubThe original name for the product was Verizon One and it was shown at CES in 2007.  I looked at the latest Verizon Hub pictures and it looked identical to the Verizon One.

From what I’ve seen the Web browsing experience is limited because you can only get Web content that Verizon has enabled.  It is designed for VOIP but it will handle regular phone calls.  it will require a two-year contract at $29.99/month.

The Verizon Hub is a touch screen home phone system.  It can make calls over both wired or Wi-Fi Internet connections.  Verizon Wireless will introduce the new Verizon Hub this weekend Feb 1, 2009.  Verizon though is trying to create lock in with their service and the first annoyance is that you need to have one Verizon Wireless mobile phone to subscribe to the service. Verizon will only sell it though to its own wireless subscribers that’s why you actually have to buy it at the Verizon Wireless store. At least you don’t need to use Verizon DSL.  Any Internet connection should work.  You just need a Verizon Wireless line.

The Verizon Hub will have basic phone features as well as visual voicemail, contact list management, text message calendar alerts, and audible turn-by-turn directions delivered to Verizon Wireless phones from the Verizon Hub.  You can check local traffic and weather in the morning before leaving the house or automatically receive a text when an appointment changes or as a reminder not to be late.

Here are some examples of things you can do with the phone:

  • Yellowpages – Find the number of local businesses and service providers.
  • Preview moview trailers and purchase tickets to the movie.
  • View a set of canned video clips
  • Get local traffic
  • Track kids phones using the Verizon Wireless Chaperone functionality
  • Calendaring
  • Sync wireless devices through text, picture and video messaging between wireless phones and the Verizon Hub.

***Also, last but not least the Verizon Hub doubles as a digital picture frame.  (Didn’t they just think of everything)

Here is what the Verizon CMO says:  “The Verizon Hub reinvents the home phone system that’s been centered on your kitchen counter for years. We’re bringing huge new functionality to a common household device that will unlock its true potential. And in the process, Verizon Wireless is updating the tools busy families can use to manage their lives,” said Mike Lanman, vice president and chief marketing officer at Verizon Wireless. “The Verizon Hub is going to change the way you think about what you want and need your home phone to do. Whether you’re thinking about getting rid of your home phone or can’t live without it, now is the time to try out the Verizon Hub.”
