Fasting blood glucose – shows level of glucose after 10 hour fasting. Glucose tolerance test – Shows the base blood glucose level (taken pre drink). Patient drink 300mls of glucose syrup and a blood sample is taken after 2 hours. If the 2 hour test is above 10 mmol/l diabetes is confirmed. Microprotein (or microalbumin) – Urine test to see if kidney damage had occured. Hb1AC – Or long term blood glucouse. This is done every 6 months and shows the long term control. Good control would show a result of 6.5%. Cholesterol – Diabetics often have raised cholesterol so this needs to be monitored. These are the main tests, im sure there are some others.
