What would have happened if it were Asia First instead of Europe First in WWII?
The Germans would have beaten the Russians in 1942 or 1943, and possibly won the Desert campaign as well, cutting off the Suez Canal route from Britain to the East. With the Germans probably still in control of much of Europe, it’s extremely doubtful if the Allies would have used atomic bombs against Germany; the Germans regularly wiped out whole villages in reprisal for the deaths of one or 2 soldiers.The consequences for the civilian populations and Allied pows if a whole German city were nuked could well have been severe. Further, the Germans would have had more time to develop their rockets if the Allies had adopted an ‘Asia first’ policy, particularly as it would almost certainly needed an invasion of Japan to force them out of the war.. At the war’s end, they were already building a V weapon capable of hitting New York. As the Germans had already developed sarin nerve gas, it’s not only Germany that would have suffered attacks from WMDs.
