What is the significance of WWII HITLERS BLITZKRIEG through europe?
Tactics wise, it was the first time that war was conducted with the coordination of both the air force and ground forces. The German Air Force (The Luftwaffe) worked just ahead of the army bombing any resistance, and then the army would run over the dazed and damaged defenders. Direct communication between the two forces was the key. The individual army commanders worked independently, achieving seperate goals for any particular battle plan. This allowed individual commanders to “ad lib” and adapt on the spot to achieve their goal. Essentally, you had to be somewhere or capture something (like a town). The high command didn’t care how you did it, just get the job done. This made for some very creative decision making. Again, this was a new concept.
