When struck, do the strings of a guitar form standing waves?
All sound waves can be seen as standing waves in the right conditions.The ancient mystics used to frighten and control the population by demonstrating standing waves as monster snakes or spectres.This can be, and has been.demonstrated by using drums in a cave or tunnel,once the drum beats reach a certain pitch,a resonance is set up which shows in the disturbed dust from the floor and walls as visible standing wave patterns ,just like a large snake, emerging from the mouth of the opening.
