Will permanent black hair dye eventually fade to brown?

If you want something that will fade, then don’t use anything labeled permanent. Henna and indigo are permanent. They’re way better for your hair than chemical dyes, but in no way are they temporary. Even semi-permanent ammonia or peroxide based dyes may not fade as much as you like, if your hair a a good deal lighter than black you may end up with dark, dark brown. Honestly, I might try something like Manic Panic, a semi-permanent cream without any lifting agent like a box dye. There are other brands, but Manic Panic is the only one that I know makes a black cream. They wash out, and since you aren’t removing any color, you’re less likely to have your hair absorb the new color and keep it permanently.
