The PAL software can be overloaded if you push buttons too fast to give the PAL commands. This can result in the PAL being locked up and you lose the XM1/2 buttons. Usually, restarting the car will reset the PAL. But if you cannot get the XM1/2 buttons back, unplug the 16 pin connector at the PAL module to disconnect the power to it. This will reset the PAL and get the XM1/2 buttons back.
