Alex Derbyshire – Why do we only have 5 terrestrial channels, in America they have like 50?
Because as Channel 5 has proved anything above 4 channels and the quality of television goes right down. Take programs we see here that are imported from America; Seinfeld, Opera or Ironside. Ok you get the occasional peach of a program like Jerry Springer but you can’t simply have hour after hour of chat shows… God the agony! Also the channels would get so little revenue from advertising, due to the huge number of channels and ad-breaks (Basic economic rule of supply.), that there would be ad-breaks every five minutes. Is that what you want because that’s what you’ll get?
