ALSA utilities don work unless Im root on my Linux system. Whats up with that?
This is a very common problem, which may arise when adding a user or installing the operating system from scratch. When you set up GNU/Linux for the first time, the installer creates a root and a user account for daily usage. Usually, a newly-created user account has very little privileges. Depending on distributions, you may or may not be able to play and record sound using Alsa, unless you add the necessary privileges.
