Am I allowed to set-up my own vigilante group to protect my neighbourhood?
You are only allowed to use legal means, you could use reasonable force to remove intruders from your property or a friends property if you were helping them. You can make a citizens arrest and call on the police for support, but if you got that wrong you could fall foul of the law, just like a policeman can – you’d have to justify the arrest. Some people have tried filming wrongdoers in order to try and put them off you can’t carry a weapon. You can improvise a weapon in an emergency, for example a torch can be used as a kubotan, but the police can still try to argue that an item was carried with the intent of using it as a weapon.
