Are Loy Yang Power a direct beneficiary of the landfill? Will they receive royalties?

No – Loy Yang Power will not receive any royalties. Loy Yang Power is selling the land for the proposed landfill site to Latrobe City. This will provide Latrobe City with freehold title to this land and there is no intention of paying any royalties to Loy Yang Power. What has been outlined is a proposal that there will be a levy on the tonnage amount of waste going into the landfill site, payable to Latrobe City, that will be used to progressively return the current plantation area outside of the landfill site to indigenous vegetation consistent with that prior to European settlement, to maintain and enhance the biodiversity values of the site. This rehabilitation and regeneration plan would be undertaken through the establishment of a community consultation committee that would oversee the operations of the entire site.
