Are medical trials dangerous?
Imagine how strict a restaurant has to be on food hygiene. There are strict guidelines stating how and where their food must be prepared, how it must be stored and how it must be served. Now imagine how strict the guidelines are when it comes to medical trials! The industry is constantly regulated and the clinics have very strict rules to follow when conducting clinical trials. All of this aside, there is always a risk of side effects when testing new drugs in a medical trial. Before starting a clinical trial you will be given some forms that supply you with all of the information about the medical trial that you are participating in. Some of this information includes the reasons why the research is being done in the first place and the potential risks of the medical trial. This is called Informed Consent and it allows you to gain a full understanding of what it is you are testing. But remember, when you enrol in a medical trial, you can withdraw at any time.
