Are part-time residents allowed in preventive medicine residency programs (II.A.2)?

A. The Program Requirements do not specifically address this issue. The goal of graduating residents is to meet the application requirements for the certifying examination in Preventive Medicine. The American Board of Preventive Medicine (ABPM) requires completion of the MPH (or equivalent) degree, but does not specify over what time period the degree must be earned. In addition ABPM requires twelve months of practicum residency training. It is expected that this training will be for no less than 50% time (i.e., a maximum of 24 months of practicum training). The focus of the RRC is the quality of residency training and residents who are engaged in training less than 50% time are unlikely to receive the highest quality training.
