Are small speakers as good as large speakers?

It depends. If you have enough space and you don’t mind their size, large speakers will sound great. If your room is too small to properly place large speakers, then small speakers will probably sound better, because they will be easier to place correctly for a perfect stereo image. Small satellites won’t sound as loud as larger speakers, and they often have problems with the lower bass area. Adding a subwoofer to these smaller satellite systems is a good idea, since they usually can’t produce a truly deep bass on their own. There are advantages with smaller speakers together with a subwoofer. The speakers are easier to place in order to gain the best sound image, and the subwoofer can be placed for the best bass reproduction. Such a combination, can often be better than larger speakers. If you use small speakers in a home theater system, you must add a subwoofer. Listen to the speakers before you buy and trust your ears.
