Both. Animals in captivity are displaced from their exact natural habitat. If they have contact with other turtles and tortoises in captivity, they may have been exposed to illness. They may become carriers for an illness that could spread to other wild animals. We can’t return them to the wild, but we do the next best thing and help them find new homes. Although we prefer captive bred animals, we do not distinguish between them when we try to find them good homes.
