There are no drawbacks to connecting V-Station readers via Ethernet. However, connecting a V-Pass, V-Flex, V-Prox, or V-Smart reader to a Lantronix UDS-10 for purposes of Ethernet communication does have some drawbacks. Specifically, this latter configuration will not allow the capability for broadcasting of fingerprint templates or unit parameters to a network of readers. You will only be allowed to perform a Unit-to-Unit, Unit-to-PC, or PC-to-Unit transfer. Therefore, you will need to transfer templates to each reader individually via Ethernet. PC broadcasting of templates will continue to be supported for all Veri-Series readers connected to the Host PC using a serial COM port or for a V-Station reader connected to a LAN.
