I will tell you my experience and you can decide if it’s a problem for you. My daughter was born 5 weeks premature, three days BEFORE the breastfeeding class I was going to attend! She was in the NICU for a week, first with breathing problems then jaundice. They supplemented her with formula in the hospital to flush out the jaundice. That passed and we went home where I had all intentions of nursing her exclusively. It went well for a while, but we kept giving her a bottle (expressed or formula) for her last feeding at night. She started sleeping through the night at four weeks, which is phenomenal for any baby, let alone a preemie, and I attribute this to using a bottle. I continued to nurse her but not exclusively. She was always a very lazy nurser and would fall asleep on me while feeding. She was underweight and having trouble gaining so I felt compelled to supplement formula when she wasn’t nursing properly.
