Are there any standard methods for the determination of mercury in natural gas?
Yes, ISO 6978-2 and ASTM 6350-98. These methods describe the sampling and analysis of natural gas for the determination of mercury. The procedures involve depressurizing the sample and passing it over gold or platinum traps which preconcentrate the mercury. The traps are then heated to thermally desorb the mercury into an atomic fluorescence detector. The procedures give the total mercury concentration in natural gas.
