Are there clear-cut situations for using IP storage versus Fibre Channel?
Any campus, MAN or WAN requirement is more easily addressed with IP storage than native Fibre Channel. Fibre Channel will give you up to 10Km links, but those must be dedicated, point-to-point connections. Extending Fibre Channel with DWDM is expensive and performance suffers significantly beyond 30Km. Using storage over IP offers the flexibility of IP routing as well as gigabit speeds for MANs.
