Are there state law requirements a charity must comply with prior to soliciting charitable contributions?
A. New York State law requires most organizations to register with and report to the New York State Office of the Attorney General’s Charities Bureau prior to soliciting charitable contributions in New York State. You may contact the Charities Bureau to determine if a charity is validly registered. In addition, annual reports are available upon request to the Charities Bureau or the charity.
