Audacity of Bodily Autonomy: Should Women Control their Bodies? Traditional views grounded in conservative, traditional religion promote a minimalist view of bodily autonomy, especially where disempowered groups like women are concerned. Modern, liberal conceptions of society emphasize a very broad view of personal and bodily autonomy, limiting the power of the state or privileged groups to have any say in the disposition of another person’s body. Abortion is the most visible manifestation of this debate, with religious conservatives arguing for making it a crime for women to make their own choices about the use of their bodies while liberals and feminists support broad personal choices for women.
