Graduates from Interdisciplinary Engineering Studies are likely to have difficulties. Graduates from the Multidisciplinary Engineering program should not. The first step to obtaining a PE, is taking (and passing!) the Fundamentals of Engineering Exam your senior year at Purdue. After that, some states require no more than the four years of professional engineering experience under the supervision of a PE or similarly qualified engineer, Proof of passing the Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) exam, Proof of passing the Professional Engineering (PE) exam and Experience references (with some from PEs). If you graduate from Interdisciplinary Engineering Studies, some states may require: • More than the 4 years experience under a PE. And/or • A letter from IDE explaining the program. And/or • The taking of additional engineering classes.
