Can a use a desert heat mat with emperor scorpions?

Hi, A heat mat is a heat mat, something that gives of heat for you animal. I personally use Habistat, but its personal preference. Always use a thermostat for obvious reasons of creating a constant temperature. As with the plastic vivariums, I have used heat mats for over 4 years on my lizards and snakes with no problems. However other people have had bad experiences in the past. If you feel you are putting you animals in danger of any way by doing so, dont do it.

If you regulate the heat and humidity it does not matter what kind of heat pad you use. but as for not using them on plastic, you can but it is not advisable, as the heat pads can have a defect in it making it melt or burn the plastic. If you keep the tank elevated for air flow you should be fine. I wouldn’t put it on the plastic, but I know people who do this. I also i like to mount the pads to fire resistant lexan, then elevate the tank and slide the lexan under, that way it doesn’t make contact with the cage bottom. Sometimes when the heat pad is put directly on glass the heat will crack it or if the glass gets hot from the pad and you get the glass wet(misting, watering ETC) it will also crack. that’s why i like mounting it to a small piece of Lexan first. Good luck.
