Can anyone help me give up drinking alcohol?
Hi there, Mad Irishman, First things first: it takes a lot of courage and strength to want to stop and verbalize it. So give yourself some credit, and throw in a little compassion from me. It’s not an easy venture, but it can be an incredible journey and adventure. Tell as many people as you can that you are stopping. This will help you be accountable. In my humble opinion, folks that can go to a 30 day rehab OR that can attend 90 AA meetings in 90 days have the most success. It’s a serious commitment for a serious problem. But look at it like this: if you had cancer and needed to undergo treatment to save your life, you would do it. This is no different. You need treatment to save your life. And you can’t do it alone, trust me on that. There is an alcoholic/disease side of yourself. This side will lie to you, and tell you that you don’t have to go to these extremes to get better, that you can do it on your own, or that you don’t need to stop at all.
