Can Asda designer George save M&S?
George Davies, the man who built up Next and Asda’s George clothing range, has been hired by ailing retailer Marks & Spencer to launch a new womenswear collection, M&S said today. Mr Davies, who parted company with Asda in November, will design, manufacture and supply an exclusive womenswear collection for M&S. P> The range will be launched in October in 100 stores and displayed in a specially designed part of the shop. The move follows hard on the heels of the appointment earlier this week of Yasmin Yusuf as creative director, from Warehouse, the high-street retailer owned by the Arcadia group. Mr Davies will be working with chairman and chief executive Luc Vandevelde and Roger Holmes, the chain’s new managing director of UK retail. Mr Davies said: “I have always been an admirer of Marks & Spencer and the quality of its products.
