Can commands purchase any of the products on the ESI/SmartBUY approved products list before that time?
No. Not yet. Currently, there are 11 products on that list. The Department of Navy is narrowing down that list to a smaller solution set, so we can capitalize on our buying power and ensure the best price. In addition, choosing a smaller set of products for our enterprise solution will reduce the number of software applications that will be required to go through the certification and accreditation to ride on our networks, which also will help to reduce costs. Finally, choosing an enterprise solution will ensure that all data at rest encryption purchases made Department wide will be interoperable.
