Can GEFRAN load cells be powered in AC using carrier frequency?
The load cells can be powered with sinusoidal voltage. The following parameters are very important: • real voltage value: between 7 Vrms and 15 Vrms • voltage frequency: in general below 1KHz. By using AC to power the cells, you have the advantage of eliminating any possible thermocouple effects on the extensimeter wiring circuit. Therefore, by powering the cell in AC the measurement system is more precise than when the cell is powered in DC. On the other hand, the AC power system and signal conditioning (demodulation) is more expensive than the DC system. Cells are powered in AC when calibrated by Gefran Sensori.
