Can I choose not to transcode my video?

Yes, it is indeed possible to use your original video for streaming, without transcoding it. This can be set up by creating a so-called Passthough template. The only thing this template does is copy the file to the CDN, skipping over the transcoding stage. Learn more in this tutorial. Caveats Three caveats exist when streaming your own files: • First, we presume your video is either in MP4 of FLV format that can be streamed by Flash. This includes having the keyframes metadata embedded in case of FLV files. • Second, our bitrate switching will not work with Passthrough conversions. To play passthroughs in a player, you explicitly have to set the Video quality option of that player to use the Passthrough template. • Third, we always render a default MP4 Web conversion, even if you only want the passthrough. This conversion is small, fast and has a high degree of compatibility with mobile devices. We use it for e.g. CMS proxies and player fallbacks.
