Can I install hardwood over a 5/8 inch aspenite subfloor?

0

5/8 inch Aspenite is never a recommended subfloor. The minimum recommended subfloor for 16 inch centres is 5/8 inch CD Exposure 1 Plywood or 23/32 OSB. Old aspenite especially does not hold the nails very well. The NWFA recommends putting 1/2 inch plywood, offset by 1/2 inch the panes, in each direction to the exisiting subfloor, or at a 45 degree angle and nailed on a 12 inch (minimum) grid pattern.
