Can I record audio only on a recordable DVD in .wav format?
The answer to that is… yes, sort of. A DVD cannot be made in quite the same fashion as a Red Book audio CD. It will contain both audio and video layers. The audio layer can use any of several different formats, including PCM (also used on audio CDs) and Dolby Digital. Every DVD player on the market is compatible with PCM and Dolby Digital and most support DTS. A WAV-format file will be converted to one of the supported formats when you render the DVD. The easiest way to create a DVD containing “only” audio would be to import the WAV-format audio tracks one at a time to an NLE (non-linear editing) program in the same way you would import any sound track you were adding to a video production. You would then create one video frame for each audio track. This could be a black screen displaying the name of each song that would be displayed for the same length of time the audio track runs. Insert chapter marks at the start of each audio track so you can skip to any track when playing the DV
