Overview: The Plantronics CS50 USB is a wireless microphone worn over the ear that communicates with a base station that is plugged into the USB port on a computer. It communicates over the 900MHz frequency, which means it can be used at distances approaching 300 feet from the computer to which the base station is attached. More information on the CS50 can be found on the Plantronics web site. Answer: MacSpeech has done extensive testing of the CS50 with very mixed results. After months of use with iListen, we were able to achieve an accuracy rate near that of the wired microphones we have tested. Initial accuracy, however, was much lower than we expect from a microphone we have certified. So much so that we cannot recommend or certify the use of the CS50 with iListen. We would like to emphasize that it will work with iListen, but the effort involved to improve accuracy through use of iListen’s Correction feature will not make this a viable microphone choice for most people.
