Can I use Duty Free Spirits (DFS) for scientific research?
Scientists may be able to receive DFS. Details of what qualifies as scientific use are: • analytical research or other laboratory purposes, or physical testing. Please note: this does not include routine cleaning of work areas etc; you should apply to receive one of the denatured alcohol grades • teaching purposes • commercial project research and development where small quantities of spirits only are required. Please note: if a pilot development is subsequently scaled up to commercial manufacture, you are still required by law to demonstrate that denatured alcohol is unsuitable for use in the manufacturing process.
