Can I use EndNote with a word processor other than Word?
Only Microsoft Word has the full EndNote Cite While You Write feature which formats references as you work. It is being developed for Open Office. However, it is possible to use EndNote with any word processor which can save in rich text format. You will have to format your references when you have finished your document. (Microsoft Works, Word Perfect, OpenOffice and StarOffice will all save in rich text format). Create a new document in your word processor. When you need to insert a citation, open EndNote and select the reference you need. Still in EndNote, click Edit then Copy. Go back to your word processor and use Edit then Paste to insert the reference. It will appear in a temporary form with curly brackets, e.g. {Johnson, 1993 #120}. When you have finished your document, save it in rich text format then close it. In EndNote X4 click Tools – Format paper – Format paper.
