Can I use horse or sheep manure instead of steer manure?

0

You can if you know what the horse or sheep has been eating. Horses and sheep don’t digest seeds as well as cattle and many of the seeds will pass through the animal and end up in the manure. If the animal has been eating in a weedy area or eating Bermuda grass, those seeds may end up in your garden bed and you could have a good crop of weeds to fight. Seeds will have been killed by the heat generated in properly composted manure but almost no manure available at local ranches will be well composted.
