Can Millions Of Years Be Placed Between Genesis 1:1 and 1:2?
1. Jesus didn’t see such a gap (and He is the Creator, John 1:1-3; Colossians 1:16). He placed Adam and Eve from the beginning of creation (Mark 10:6). 2. The Bible doesn’t present a race of people prior to Adam, which were then destroyed in some major catastrophe. Rather, Adam is viewed as the first man (1 Corinthians 15:45). 3. In addition, the Bible also makes it clear that sin and death resulted from the events in Genesis chapter 3, see 1 Corinthians 15:21-22; Romans 5:12. The gap theory requires millions and billions of years of struggle, death and sin prior to Adam. Other passages make it clear that Genesis 1 is one compact unit all happening within one week (Exodus 20:8-11), and that man has been present from the beginning of creation (Romans 1:20). If this isn’t enough time in some people’s minds for God to create the universe, then just remember that God is going to bring it all to an end in a much shorter period of time (2 Peter 3:10; 1 Corinthians 15:52).
