Can Oral chelation provide the same benefits as IV chelation therapy?
Oral chelation provides some but not all of the benefits of IV therapy. IV therapy has a direct and powerful effect on the body almost instantaneously. An intravenous session usually is administered over a four hour period with a dosage of about 1500 mg- 3 grams. The number of treatments necessary depends on the individual, generally somewhere between 20 and 50 sessions. Candidates for IV chelation are people that have been diagnosed as having atherosclerosis, heavy metal poisoning or anyone else who has symptoms related to lack of blood flow or heavy calcification of tissues. Oral chelation is not absorbed very well, only about 3-8% of the EDTA is absorbed through oral administration as opposed to 100% being absorbed intravenously. Therefore the time and dosage required to achieve the same benefits with the oral form is different.
