Can rebond be done on hair that was previously relaxed or straightened with sodium hydroxide (lye)?

In general, NO. It is not recommended by experts neither do we recommend it as doing so may result in serious damage to the hair. Thio and lye (sodium hydroxide) are not compatible. Normally, the relaxed hair should be made to grow out completely before it may be rebonded. But then again in the case of Ahglow rebonding, weve tried it on sodium hydroxide-relaxed hair 3-4 months after the relaxing and it worked just fine. Of course we treated the hair first with our special pre-treatment protein conditioner. After the hair passed the strand test, we went right ahead with the rebond and the result was very satisfactory. The key point here is treating the damaged hair first. This may take several sessions spread over a few weeks. A strand test will tell if the hair is ready for rebonding. If the hair is really damaged and cannot pass a strand test even after treatment, the prudent thing to do is to grow out the damaged hair even it takes a year or more.
