Can silver art clay be used to join two pieces of silver?

The problem with silver art clay is shrinkage … if you make it to fit a silver piece it will not fit after firing. After firing it could be soldered together as it is essentially fine silver. Not much else will securely bond silver together. You need heat to open the pores of the metal, which then suck the molten solder in and bond. Soldering is not hard, you can start with a simple plumber’s torch, about $15, from a hardware store. You will also need solder, flux (I spray on a liquid flux), and a fireproof soldering surface. It’s not hard to learn to solder and it will greatly expand what you can do … give it a try.
