Currently, the Audit Log from within Auditor is only available in an XML file format. Actually, the Audit Log is the RSAS015 table in Auditor and RSSA015 in Security Auditor. So the answer would be yes. The XML file only contains entries that were previously archived on the Audit Log Maintenance window.
