Can the Melanesia be used in surf?
We think the Melanesia can be suitable for use in 2-6ft surf using the “Paddling Version” float and beams which are more suitable than the “Sailing Version” float and beams as they are lighter and stiffer. However, we would recommend you add watertight bulkheads and good buoyancy under the seats, so you are absolutely safe if flooded by a wave. Doing this will require a little extra plywood to the 2 sheets normally used to build her.
