Can We Expect 4GHz on Air from the New Six-core AMD Processors?

If reports from bit-tech turn out to be a reliable predictor, then we could see AMD’s upcoming six-core CPUs being pretty handy in the overclocking stakes. It is noted that impressive overclocks are likely to be limited to Black Edition models, with the unlocked multiplier allowing you to negate a HT clock limit of around 230MHz. That means that chips with locked multipliers will probably only see modest gains. Bit-tech says that it saw an AMD six-core CPU being overclocked using a “very good air cooler” and hitting 4GHz to 4.2GHz. Detail on what kind of voltages or which motherboard model was used couldn’t be mentioned (plus you would expect a cherry picked CPU for demonstrations such as this). The news does sound promising for those interested in playing with the new six-core chips however.
