In all unusual cases we are pretty flexible except that we insist on evidence of intellectual content in the area of computer science. A student working in another department may choose an advisor from that department with whom they are working on an honors project. At the end of the semester, the honors director(s) will confirm with that professor that the student has fulfilled the requirements of a computer science honors project. A student who decides to work on his/her own must still find a CS faculty advisor; that person may be less involved than usual, but will act as a quality control. Industry is a little trickier, but the same guidelines apply—the student needs a CS faculty advisor who will (mildly) monitor progress. • WHAT HAPPENS AT THOSE HONORS STUDENT PIZZA LUNCHES?
